Squidward Tentacles is a character from the Nickelodeon animated television series SpongeBob SquarePants. His voice is provided by American voice actor Rodger Bumpass. Bumpass has been the voice of Squidward since the show's inception in 1999. Squidward's voice is a deep, nasally tone, with a mixture of sarcasm and dry humor. Bumpass has said in interviews that he based Squidward's voice on a character from a comedy troupe he saw perform in the 1970s. He has also stated that he finds Squidward's voice challenging to maintain for long periods due to its nasal qualities.
